The secret

Why Troisa is cheaper than international chains

No magic — a local-agency model that removes three layers of margin.

No franchise network

Hertz, Europcar and Avis pay a royalty to their international parent plus a franchisee margin in Tunisia. Troisa is independent — that 15-20% extra never lands on your bill.

Cash deposits accepted

The international chains routinely hold 1,500-2,500 TND on a credit card. Troisa takes cash in TND, EUR or USD — no credit card needed, no FX fee on the refund.

100% Tunisian agency

No airport concession fee (12-18% at the big brands). No captive in-terminal desk where you pay 30% more for the identical car. Our fleet is based in Tunis and meets you outside.

Free direct delivery

No "airport pick-up fee", no queueing at a counter. We meet you at the arrivals exit with the car — or deliver to your hotel free for 3+ day bookings.

Insider tips

5 ways to rent a car for less in Tunisia

Follow all five and you'll save 200-400 TND on a typical week — without sacrificing insurance or comfort.

1 Book 10-14 days in advance

Tunisia's rental fleet is small — around 30,000 cars across the whole country, versus 1.2 million in France. In high season (June-September) economy cars vanish 10 days before pickup and only SUVs at 180 TND/day remain. Book early and you lock in our cheapest tier automatically. See our 5 essential tips for renting in Tunisia →

2 Rent for 7 days minimum

The daily rate drops sharply past 7 days: 80 TND/day falls to 70 TND/day, a 70 TND saving over a week. If you'd planned 5 days, compare the totals — 7 days is often cheaper end-to-end than 5 days, and you get 2 free days to extend your trip.

3 Pick up off-airport, not at the counter

At Tunis-Carthage the same Europcar car costs ~30% more at the in-terminal desk than from a city location, because of airport concession fees. With Troisa, airport delivery is free — you pay the city rate even when you collect at arrivals. See our Tunis-Carthage airport page.

4 Choose the class you actually need

An economy car handles 99% of trips in Tunisia: Tunis, Sousse, Hammamet, Djerba — it's all paved. An SUV is only useful if you head deep south (Douz, Ksar Ghilane) or into the mountains (Kasserine, Beni Khedache). Otherwise you're paying 100 TND/day extra for nothing. For 2 people stick with the economy or compact class.

5 Pay the deposit in cash, not credit card

A credit-card deposit hold blocks 1,500-2,500 TND of your limit for 2-3 weeks after return. With cash in TND, EUR or USD there's no hold and no FX fee on refund. Bring small bills — we hand them back to you on return. (Yes, this still surprises customers used to Hertz at JFK.)

Watch out

Cheap rental vs. budget trap: the hidden fees to dodge

The headline rate isn't always the real rate. These are the most common surcharges to watch for — none of them exist at Troisa.

"Airport fee" surcharge

15-18% of the total tacked on if you collect at the in-terminal counter instead of in town. On a 7-day economy rental with a chain that's ~140 TND for nothing. Troisa: 0 TND, free airport delivery.

Additional-driver fee

20-40 TND per day per extra driver at some agencies — 280 TND on a week if you're two licensed drivers swapping. At Troisa the 1st additional driver is free, the 2nd is 5 TND/day.

Forced International Driving Permit

Some chains refuse EU licences and force you to buy a local IDP for 80 TND. Tunisian law actually recognises EU licences for 6 months — Troisa applies the law, no surcharge.

"Full-to-empty" fuel trap

You prepay a full tank (200 TND), return the car half-full, lose 100 TND. Troisa is full-to-full — pay only what you actually use. More tricks in our 12 rental mistakes to avoid.

Side-by-side

How Troisa stacks up against Hertz, Europcar, Sixt

Indicative average for a 7-day economy rental, booked 10 days in advance, collected at Tunis-Carthage in May. Chain prices vary by season; we sit 30-40% below the pack.

Hertz Tunisia~140 TND~50 TNDCredit card 2,000 TND~1,030 TND
Europcar Tunisia~135 TND~45 TNDCredit card 1,800 TND~990 TND

Illustrative basket built around a 7-day economy rental. Hertz / Europcar figures observed on their public sites in mid-season — they don't reflect any individual quote. The point is the structural gap, not to denigrate.
