Your first stop is the awe-inspiring El Jem Amphitheater—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved Roman monuments in the world. This 3rd-century coliseum once held 35,000 spectators for gladiator combats. Climb to the upper tiers for panoramic views and explore the underground passages where gladiators awaited their fate.
Continue to Kairouan, Tunisia's spiritual heart and the 4th holiest city in Islam. Visit the magnificent Great Mosque of Uqba (founded 670 AD), marvel at the 9th-century Aghlabid Basins, and wander through the authentic souk where artisans craft handwoven carpets, crimson chechias, and engraved copperware. Enjoy lunch on your own—try the famous couscous kairouanais and makroudh pastries.
